Breeders comments

Developed by our team at Northam, AGT-Trigg arrives at a time when growers are seeking to minimise downside risk more than ever. Bred with WA conditions in mind, AGT-Trigg offers reliability when the season gets tough, and the ability to capitalise in a good year. This well-rounded adaptability is a key aim of our breeding efforts, with AGT-Trigg standing as a strong example.

AGT-Trigg resembles its parent Calibre in many ways; sharing similar plant type, maturity, disease resistance profile and adaptation. However, AGT-Trigg offers an over-all improvement in yield, better lodging tolerance, and better test weight. Although AGT-Trigg's coleoptile length isn't as long as Calibre's, it is longer than many other comparators on the market.

AGT-Trigg may also be compared to newer varieties LRPB Sonic and LRPB Vortex. All three varieties are high yielding, quicker maturing varieties, however, seem to show different adaptation patterns. Both LRPB Sonic and LRPB Vortex have yielded particularly well in higher yielding trials, while giving up the advantage to AGT-Trigg in low-medium yielding environments. This difference in adaptation is particularly evident in the comparison between AGT-Trigg and LRPB Sonic; and while LRPB Vortex seems to offer a more stable adaptation profile than LRPB Sonic, it holds an APW quality classification versus AH for AGT-Trigg.

With its strong combination of very high yield, AH quality with good grain size, and suitable disease resistance package, we see AGT-Trigg being an easy choice for the majority of Western Australian wheat growers.
